When the industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and nineteenth century helped transform accounting into a profession, KPMG’s founding fathers were center stage, pioneering the industry. The KPMG network was formed in 1987 when Peat Marwick International and Klynveld Main Goerdeler merged along with their respective member firms.

Piet Klynveld established an accounting company Klynveld Kraayenhof & Co. in Amsterdam in 1917.

P as Peat
William Barclay Peat established an accounting company William Barclay Peat & Co. In London in 1870.

M as Marwick
James Marwick together with Roger Mitchell established in New York City in 1897 an accounting company Marwick, Mitchell & Co.

G as Goerdeler
Dr. Reingard Goerdeler has been for many years the chairman of Deutsche Treuhand-Gesellschaft and later chairman of KPMG.

1867 Robert Fletcher is establishing an accounting company named later as Peat Marwick Mitchell.

1870  William Barclay Peat is entering a company.

1877  Thomson McLintock is opening office in Glasgow.

1897  Company Marwick Mitchell & Co. is established in New York.

1925  Peat and Marwick Mitchell & Co is merging and creating a transatlantic company.

1979  Thomson McLintock is establishing company KMG, a group of independent national firms based in Europe.

1987  Merger of these two companies has been executed and KPMG was created.

1991 KPMG in Slovakia was founded.

2014 KPMG office in Kosice was opened.
