The main goal of the Russian Institute of Directors is to establish an effective corporate governance model in Russia to improve the use of financial resources and raise investment appeal. One of the ways of resolving this task is to hold the annual congresses of professional corporate directors. This year the central topic of the congress was a discussion of the role of corporate directors and corporate secretaries in the development of a corporate governance system in Russian companies, and how to ensure effective interaction between management and the boards of directors of companies. The participants also discussed the results of a survey of corporate governance practice and the work of the boards of directors of Russian companies in 2011–2012 performed by the Russian Institute of Directors jointly with the New Economic School.
