I joined KPMG as a graduate directly from University in 1997 and have been here ever since. I became a partner in April 2008 (I was actually on maternity leave at the time).
Some of the clients that I am now tax partner on were clients that I started working on in my first year at KPMG so I definitely have a long history with them. My clients include several of the listed property trusts and I have worked closely with this industry for a number of years.
What attracted you to KPMG?
I was really impressed with their graduate recruitment presentation during my last year at Otago; the people presenting were enthusiastic and seemed to really enjoy what they did. I just felt that the firm would be an ideal fit for me.
It is a great place to work, there is tons of support for what you want to do and achieve - a very supportive environment. I have noticed that around the world KPMG has virtually the same culture in each country, quite remarkable.
Why have I stayed for 8 years? - why would I want to give up such a great job with such a great firm?
How do you balance the demands of work and family?
I have a one year old daughter so it is a challenge to balance the demands of a young child and two full time working parents. Modern technology definitely helps for those times when I can’t be in the office. I find that making sure my diary is up to date with both work and family appointments and happenings is really important.
