Malaysia: Customs audits on the rise               January/February 2012

You may have seen the recent New Zealand media releases regarding the review being undertaken on the role of our border agencies.

Primary Industries Minister David Carter, Customs Minister Maurice Williamson and Immigration Minister Nathan Guy announced Future Directions for the Border Sector, a work programme to look at how the three agencies can operate together more effectively.

The work programme will provide recommendations to the Government by mid-year. Already, Customs and MAF in New Zealand are substantially down the track of developing a new shared information system -  The Joint Border Management System (JBMS).

No doubt there will be some significant proposals and recommendations made as part of the review that will have a fundamental affect on how trade is processed at the New Zealand border.

Interesting times ahead for those in the New Zealand customs and trade industry.
