KPMG unwraps the business of Rugby World Cup 2011

With just over two weeks until Rugby World Cup 2011 kicks off, KPMG, Official Supplier of Accounting and Tax Advisory Services to RWC 2011, announced their ‘Inside the business of Rugby World Cup 2011’ campaign.

The most visual aspects of KPMG’s campaign are the two building wraps on the company’s Auckland office at Viaduct Harbour. 


The Fanshawe Street frontage is wrapped with an iconic image of the Webb Ellis Trophy and the Viaduct Harbour side displays a highly emotive image of the Samoan team that truly captures the essence and passion of Rugby World Cup.  The two sided wrap will be in place throughout RWC 2011, illustrating KPMG’s support of the Tournament.


In addition to the building wrap, KPMG also launched a dedicated Tournament website,, which reveals some of the insights and behind the scenes news generated around RWC 2011.


KPMG clients and Rugby fans from around the world will be able to gain insight into some of the decisions affecting the world’s third largest sporting event and the single biggest event ever to be hosted in New Zealand. 


Speaking about the website, Paul Herrod, Chief Executive of KPMG New Zealand said, “Over the next few weeks and months, the Rugby world will be focusing on New Zealand with endless news stories and articles around the six week Tournament. 


At KPMG, we are proud to be at the very heart of the ‘business of Rugby World Cup 2011’, and we are excited to be able to share some of the insight and information relating to the business aspects of the Tournament with our clients and sports fans”.


Herrod said “KPMG has been involved since 2006, working closely with RNZ 2011 and the IRB to ensure that all the planning and processes are in place to make this the best and most successful Rugby World Cup ever. 


Our team have been part of the crucial decision making and risk management involved with such a major international Tournament, including decisions following the Christchurch earthquake. 


The aim of our campaign is to enable our clients and staff to feel more involved with this fantastic event which is grabbing the attention of everyone in New Zealand and millions around the world”.


To promote their campaign further, KPMG has joined forces with New Zealand Team Manager, Darren Shand.  Hawkes Bay born Shand, who has been New Zealand Team Manager since 2004, including Rugby World Cup 2007, delivers a synergy between his role inside the business end of the New Zealand team with that of KPMG’s role inside the business of the Tournament.


Speaking at the unveiling of the building wrap today, Paul Herrod, Chief Executive of KPMG New Zealand said, “KPMG New Zealand is proud to be a core part of the inside team helping to deliver the business end of RWC 2011.  We are delighted that Darren will be able to share some of his experiences and insight with our clients and staff”.

About the Wrap:

  • The KPMG building measures approximately 32.5m x 16.5m, or 536 sqm
  • The image is made up of 476 individually installed panels, each printed and cut to fit into the right window allotment.
  • The film used is a ContraVision. It is designed to give a graphic appearance from the outside while providing internal occupants with an unobstructed view from the inside. This self adhesive vinyl is widely used all over the world as a graphic display.
  • Installation was done over five days by a team of six abseilers working in pairs from top to bottom.
