MEDIA RELEASE
KPMG and Rugby World Cup Limited have today confirmed KPMG’s appointment as the RWC 2011 Official Tournament Supplier of Accounting and Tax Advisory services, with KPMG using the opportunity to underline the importance of New Zealand businesses supporting the Tournament.
KPMG believes that even more important than the precise economic benefit figure for the country is the need for Kiwis to get in behind the tournament and that businesses start preparing and planning activities now in order to appropriately capitalise on the event.
KPMG Chief Executive Jan Dawson said:
“We have a longstanding association with Rugby in New Zealand and are delighted to be backing Rugby World Cup 2011 with the provision of accounting and tax advisory services.
“Rugby World Cup 2011 is a unique opportunity to showcase New Zealand to the world and will be a catalyst for significant economic growth in the same way that we experienced with the America’s Cup. Our selection as one of the team of Official Suppliers reflects our commitment to helping New Zealand maximise the return from this iconic event. We are strongly encouraging support from our clients, our staff and our alumni in New Zealand and overseas.
“Right now we believe there are businesses throughout New Zealand standing on the side-lines wondering how they can get involved. Teams and thousands of tourists will be hosted by towns and cities throughout the country over the 45 days of the Tournament providing a spread of opportunities for all businesses to capitalise on next year.
“However, businesses need to start their planning now if they are to take full advantage of the economic and other benefits that will flow from this global sporting event.”
Rugby World Cup Limited Managing Director Mike Miller said:
“We are delighted to welcome KPMG as an Official Tournament Supplier for Rugby World Cup 2011. The appointment of an Official Supplier of accounting and tax advisory is an important element of the delivery of a tournament which is now firmly established as the world’s third largest sporting event.”
“KPMG has considerable experience and expertise across the global accountancy and tax spectrum and has excellent Rugby expertise and we are looking forward to continuing with the firm over the next year and a half.”
KPMG’s advisory practice is also working with a number of stakeholders to the Rugby World Cup including the government agencies.
“KPMG looks forward to extending those relationships as the Official Accounting and Tax Advisory firm to Rugby World Cup 2011,” said Jan Dawson.
