FR1111 - Building financial reports post-Centro

July 2011

Directors responsibility for the approval of financial statements as being true and fair and complying with Australian accounting standards has been the subject to great debate in the wake of the Australian Courts judgement in the Centro-case.

In New Zealand the issue of director’s responsibilities was raised in the Feltex case last year, and more recently in Nathans Finance: R v Moses, Doolan and Young.

While the specifics of the Centro case reflect Australian Corporations law – many of the lessons from this case are likely to be relevant to directors in New Zealand.

Download the PDF at the left for KPMG Australia’s Reporting Update summarising the Centro case and outlining some of the lessons.
