16 December 2009 - The Goods and Services Tax (“GST”) Bill was tabled in Parliament today. As expected, GST which is proposed to be implemented in the later half of 2011, will replace the current sales tax and service tax regime.

FRS 139 Implementation - Leveraging on Basel II (116kb PDF)

 

8 October 2009 - Many Malaysian financial institutions are in the process of implementing Basel Capital Accord II (Basel II).  At the same time they are also required to convert their financial reporting to comply with FRS 139 “Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement”, effective 1 January 2010 onwards, which poses similar implementation challenges for financial institutions as Basel II.

17 July 2009 - KPMG in Malaysia today presented a cheque for RM 50,000 to Sime Darby Plantation Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Sime Darby Berhad, in conjunction with a collaborative effort to replant mangrove trees on Carey Island, Klang.  This joint initiative will see the two parties working closely together to restore ecosystem imbalances which pose a threat to the island and its inhabitants.
