UCITS IV Planning for the future

Following UCITS III, the European Commission engaged in significant work to determine the areas where the Directive was in need of further improvement. It quickly became clear that tackling fundamental inefficiencies in the EU market was key. This thinking was developed in the “Green Paper on the enhancement of the EU framework for investment funds” issued in 2005, followed by a White Paper in 2006 and ultimately in the draft UCITS IV Directive in July 2008. This Directive is very much on course to be approved in the summer of 2010 and implemented in national legislation from the summer of 2011.
