Dinesh Kanabar - Deputy CEO, KPMG in India

Dinesh Kanabar will be moderating and leading the discussion on the 2013 Union Budget webcast . Prior to assuming his current role as the Deputy CEO of KPMG in India, Dinesh was the Deputy CEO of RSM & Co, one of the leading tax boutique in India. Thereafter, upon merger of the practice with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Dinesh led the tax and regulatory practice of PwC India.

 

Dinesh has more than 25 years’ experience advising some of the world’s largest multinationals. He has worked with several corporations, both multinational and Indian, on entry strategies, fund raising, operating excellence, benchmarking, and risk management. He has worked closely with the government on matters relating to corporate and tax policy, tax administration and related matters. Dinesh is a Member of the National Executive Committee of FICCI and was a member of the Rangachary Committee set up to review the Taxation of Development Centres and the IT Sector.

Punit Shah will be presenting and leading the discussion on the Direct Tax proposals of the 2013 Union Budget. Punit is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and has over 25 years post-qualification experience. Prior to assuming his current role as Co-Head of Tax, KPMG in India he was head of the Financial Services tax practice of KPMG in India, with a special focus on the Private Equity sector. Before joining KPMG in India, he was a partner with RSM & Co for 10 years and thereafter was the national leader of the Financial Services (Tax and Regulatory Services) practice of PwC India.

 

Punit has in-depth knowledge of international and domestic tax laws as well as of corporate and other regulations (such as FDI, FEMA, Companies Act, SEBI regulations, etc.). He has extensive experience rendering professional advice on these matters to many domestic and international players.

He has been a regular contributor of articles on his specialised subjects to leading financial newspapers as well as journals of different professional institutes. In addition, he has been a speaker for various forums including several Professional Institutes, the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and the International Fiscal Association.

Sachin Menon-Partner and National Leader – Indirect Tax Practice, KPMG in India

Sachin Menon will be presenting and leading the discussion on the Indirect Tax proposals of the 2013 Union Budget. He is currently a Partner with the Indirect Tax practice of KPMG in India. With over 31 years of experience in advising on Indirect Tax matters, Sachin has advised several MNCs and Indian groups in both the manufacturing and the service sector. His work has focused on tax planning, formulation of corporate tax policies, handling legal matters, mergers and acquisitions and business restructuring from an indirect tax perspective. He also has a wealth of experience in spearheading Value Added Tax (VAT) initiatives in India during the introduction of VAT and works closely with various governments and chambers of commerce in India. He currently plays an active role in the formulation of the GST policy in collaboration with the Government and industry bodies.

 

Sachin is also the Co-Chairman of the GST Task Force of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry.
