From 1.00pm, the golf club became a hive of activity as both golfers and chefs gathered to register for the outing and enjoy a spot of lunch in the club house. A shotgun start at 2.00pm encouraged the golfers to collect score cards, pick up goody bags and identify team members. The enthusiastic golfers were keen to get the four ball scramble underway, so off they set across the challenging East Course. Before long the team competition was in full swing, with the glorious sunshine really adding to the jovial spirit of the afternoon.
In the meantime, those participating in the cookery lesson at Ballyknocken were transported to the Cookery School by coach. It didn’t take long for everyone to sport their aprons and take their places around the state of the art kitchen. Well-known TV3 favourite Catherine Fulvio was on hand to commence the tapas cookery class and oversee the culinary skills of the animated group. The various teams, made up of old and new acquaintances, were eager to get started on their gourmet feast. As the afternoon progressed, the temperature of the kitchen certainly heated up as the enthusiastic chefs cooked up a storm. Once the array of tapas was ready, a banquet of food was served in the hay barn and the chefs earned a well deserved glass of wine.
As evening approached, the chefs made their way back to Powerscourt to join their weary friends and ex-colleagues coming off the golf course. The sun continued to shine as everyone gathered on the clubhouse balcony to enjoy a drinks reception. Before dinner got underway, Terence O’Rourke (Managing Partner, KPMG in Ireland) addressed the Alumni members with a short speech, and Kevin O’Donovan (Partner, KPMG in Ireland) then commenced the golf prize-giving.
Congratulations to the winning golf team, which consisted of Colm Saunders, Harry Slowey, Pat Caslin and Sean O’Keefe. Once the formal duties were concluded, dinner was served and everyone continued to catch up on old times late into the evening.
Once again, special thanks to Powerscourt Golf Club and Ballyknocken Cookery School for hosting the activities on the day.
