Through working with a diverse range of stakeholders, Wai Chiong is helping to improve hospitals, nations’ health as well as their overall economies. He has extensive experience in planning for future infrastructure and human resource needs, to cope with demographic change and urban growth.
After many years in clinical practice, Wai Chiong held senior roles with the National Healthcare Group of hospitals in Singapore overseeing quality, safety and clinical workforce, before joining the Ministry of Health and Economic Development Board as Director of its Health & Wellness Programme Office. He has been a driving force in transforming Singapore’s healthcare system through technology and innovation, promoting public-private partnerships and developing the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries.
As Executive Director of the Singapore National Medical Research Council, Wai Chiong has also looked at new ways to fund and build a vibrant biomedical research community.
With KPMG, he applies his experience to address challenges across the Asia-Pacific region, including advising a major hospital provider in a developing country to plan capacity and a viable business expansion model with sufficient hospitals, clinics, beds, nurses and doctors.
Wai Chiong holds a double MBA from the University of California (Los Angeles) and the National University of Singapore and holds a Master’s of Medicine and Fellowship in Family Medicine.
