Paul van Son's career has prominently been marked by his activities in the framework of energy grid operation, the liberalisation of energy markets and the development of green energy in Europe and beyond.
Presently Paul van Son is CEO of Dii, a consortium of international industrial companies with the aim to bring the Desertec vision into reality in MENA i.e. to develop a market for large scale renewable energy from the deserts. He is co-founder of EFET, the European Federation of Energy Traders, where he was Chairman from 1999 till 2012. In addition he is Chairman of the Energy4All Foundation / NICE International, supplying decentralized energy, water and internet services for small communities in developing countries.
Amongst other duties, Paul van Son has been Chairman of the APX Advisory Committee, Chairman of the Environment Committee of EnergieNed, Member of the Supervisory Board of swb (formerly Stadtwerke Bremen), Chairman of the Supervisory Board of energy trading company KOM-STROM AG and a member of several environmental and industry committees in Europe, including CIGRE, UCTE, FGE (Germany), IEE and IEEE. He has been co-founder of DUTrain, a training center for grid operators.
