Alistair, a luminary in the energy world and former CEO of Ofgem for ten years, will join KPMG as a Partner and UK Chairman of Power & Utilities on 1st October 2013.
He is returning to the firm where he trained as a Chartered Accountant before progressing to become an award winning energy sector analyst and head of research for banks in London and New York and, eventually, Chief Executive Officer of Ofgem the UK’s gas and electricity markets regulator.
He is a Council member of Durham University and is Chair of the University’s Remuneration Committee. Previously he was a Non Executive Director for Scottish Water and was a member of the UK Energy Research Partnership (UKERP). He was appointed CBE in December 2008.
Before Ofgem his working career has been in the financial sector with leading investment banks, as both an award winning analyst and as Head of Research, in London and New York.
In recent years Alistair has led Ofgem in three “landmark” projects. In March 2008 he launched a whole scale review of the RPI-X formula which led in 2010 to the creation of the “RIIO” model for regulatory price controls. In March 2009 he started “Project Discovery” which provided a root and branch review of GB’s medium term security of supply outlook. Both of these projects followed the unbundling of the gas distribution businesses out of National Grid.
