We are working to reduce the carbon footprint of our own operations in 144 countries, addressing the services we provide to clients, and contributing to the international debate on how best to respond to climate change, and mitigate its effects. We also expect our people to reduce their own carbon footprints and to become more energy efficient – at home as well as at work.
In 2011 KPMG International announced a further reduction of our global carbon footprint by 15 percent by 2015. Across the world, KPMG member firms are using energy responsibly and investing in sustainable sources, supporting our people in making sustainable decisions, getting involved in environmental protection projects, and working with other organizations to address the impact of climate change.
For example, has become carbon neutral. asks every employee to set at least one goal in their appraisal to reduce their individual carbon footprint. And has an advanced Consumption Program – over 95 percent of electricity comes from renewable sources and they have seen a 24 percent reduction in waste over 5 years.
We are also involved in a wide range of environmental projects. has commissioned local rainwater harvesting systems that will save up to 14 million liters of water a year. And is funding a program to help ensure the survival and sustainability of the elephant population – so far more than 850 elephants have been relocated.
