I was an international accounting student in Canada for four years, but felt that such was the competitive environment my career would reach a bottleneck. I also felt culturally in a minority, whereas Shanghai is my home, and also home to my parents and most valued friends – and maybe my Mr. Right.
Already I feel I've learned a lot, and I plan to have a solid career here at KPMG. I feel there are lots of opportunities here in China, and I'm sure I've made the right decision. Shanghai is bustling with atmosphere and it’s exciting to be a part of it. And what's more, I can have my favorite food whenever I want.
Although I'm in my first year with KPMG in China I've had some useful experiences working as part of a team, interviewing a client, Sarbanes Oxley testing procedures. I've also enrolled in five training opportunities and both the soft skills and technical knowledge gained have been very useful, as has the buddy system, where I can take advice about work or personal issues. I am not left alone, and that is a warm feeling.
