My job is to assist my seniors in the Audit department at the member firm in Hong Kong, but I spend about a third of my time is at client sites, sometimes in Hong Kong or other cities in China.
I get to meet a lot of people in my work. A typical day consists of understanding client’s business and liaising with client staff, working in teams of up to about ten people — all from very different backgrounds.
The opportunity to achieve my ambitions is one of the things that attracted me to KPMG. There is excellent training to support professional development, and I hope to become a Partner eventually. I’m really looking forward to being in a position to train others too.
I love challenges, whatever they might be. There are many things to learn and yes —- you will work hard — but this is all preparation for an exciting career ahead. So far I’ve learned that technical knowledge is important — it’s why clients come to KPMG — but equally important is a good client relationship, and that takes observation and communication skills.
I also feel that KPMG can help me broaden my horizons. I would certainly love to be seconded to an overseas member firm. I studied for my degree in Australia, and I gained a lot from that experience and I am aware of how different other cultures can be, both the values and the lifestyle.
Without doubt the best thing about this job is friendships I have developed with client staff and with colleagues. We have gone through the happy and painful times and I am 100% certain that they will become my life-long friends.
