Through thought leadership publications, such as the examples below, KPMG raises awareness on environmental issues with internal and external stakeholders.
Employees:
By informing and inspiring our member firms' employees, KPMG's concern for the environment stretches beyond the walls of its offices. KPMG member firm environment programs such as the US's Living Green and Australia's Step Lightly Programme raise awareness among their employees, which consequentially has a positive impact on the environment.
Suppliers:
KPMG member firms are working to address the environmental impacts of their supply chain through multiple initiatives, including updating their procurement policies to address environmental considerations in the selection of the firm's goods and services. Several firms have also been working with conference venues to ensure that environmental sustainability is being considered when planning firm events and meetings.
As an example, The Sustainable Events Initiative demonstrates KPMG Canada's commitment to sustainability and helps them to make more informed choices when selecting venues. Working with the National Research group, the Event Management and Community Leader teams developed a comprehensive survey that was sent to 120 venues across Canada. Respondents were asked detailed questions about several key performance areas, among them, energy, waste and water management, food and beverage, communication, procurement practices, community engagement and partnerships. The responses were scored and a ranking tool was developed that identifies venues by their sustainability commitments and practices.
"The motivation behind the survey was to better understand KPMG's supply chain and learn more about what our business partners are doing in the area of sustainability. One way that KPMG can make a difference is through leading by example and this can include the way we do business outside of the KPMG offices. We wanted to create the demand for more sustainable practices, as well as celebrate business partners who are doing an exceptional job."
