Few organizations in the world have as much potential influence on the business sector as KPMG. As such, we have an important role to play in addressing this challenge both in terms of our own operations in 146 countries, the services member firms provide to their clients and in contributing to the debate on the international stage.
This is why KPMG International launched the Global Green Initiative (GGI), which is KPMG’s global response to climate change. The GGI demonstrates KPMG’s commitment to reduce our impact on the wider environment, which included our ambition to reduce our combined greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2010 from a 2007 baseline. The results for 2009 have now been published, revealing that we have made a significant improvement in our overall environmental performance. View Full results here.
In addition to the GGI, KPMG’s Climate Change and Sustainability Services with more than 15 years’ sustainability experience, provides services to help clients deal with the impact of climate change on their businesses. A network of practitioners working in 40 countries, Climate Change and Sustainability Services works to better understand, control, measure and improve our clients’ business performance in the areas of climate change and sustainability.
Demonstrating our commitment to reaching a sustainable energy future, KPMG was a Gold Sponsor of the World Energy Conference, held in Montreal in 2010. The WEC was undoubtedly the premier world energy event for 2010 with over 7,500 attendees and over 200 seminars and events. More than 40 KPMG professionals from nine countries attended, with Yvo de Boer, Special Global Advisor, Climate Change and Sustainability at KPMG International and former executive of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change speaking at the VIP luncheon.
