What’s next for healthcare: Patients as co-producers

What’s next for healthcare - Dr. Hilary Thomas on: Patients as co-producers:

I think the next revolution in healthcare will be, thanks to the patient. I think that increasing patient involvement, asking patients to engage more with their healthcare and actually in some cases you won’t even need to ask that because the generation coming through at the moment using social media will want to be very closely involved in their health care.

We’re starting to move to a point where patients can actually be empowered to use their own feedback, but there is also growing body of evidence that organizations that are very good at managing patients’ clinical conditions are also very good at managing patients’ experience.

And that shift from the paternalistic god to the engaging guide I think is a really exciting one.

Dr. Hilary Thomas, a Partner with KPMG in the UK, talks about what’s next for healthcare: the next revolution will be patient-driven as clinicians move from the role of paternalistic god to engaging guide.
