Serbia - VAT, excise tax rate increases (October 2012) 

October 9:  The general rate of value added tax (VAT) in Serbia increased from 18% to 20%, beginning 1 October 2012.  Also, certain excise tax rates increased beginning 1 October 2012.

These changes were included in legislation passed 25 September 2012 and then published in the official gazette (no. 93/2012, 28 September 2012).

VAT changes

With the exception of provisions defining the application of general and reduced VAT rates (which are effective 1 October 2012), the VAT charge concerning agricultural producers and VAT refunds to buyers of a first apartment are effective 1 January 2012.

Excise tax changes

With the exception of provisions relating to an increase of excise tax refunds for oil derivatives for agricultural purposes and provisions concerning inventory lists of existing stock of cigarettes (which are effective 1 January 2013), all other excise tax provisions are effective 1 October 2012.
