Malta - Tax provisions in 2014 budget 

November 22:  Malta’s Minister of Finance in early November 2013 presented the budget for 2014.

Among the tax provisions in the 2014 budget are measures concerning:

  • Further reduction in the transitory income tax bracket
  • Extension of preferential 15% income tax rate for certain self-employed individuals
  • Tax deduction for entrepreneurs who offer work placements / apprenticeships
  • Tax deduction for employers who offer training and / or employment to employees between 45-65 years of age
  • Duty (excise tax) on documents and transfers
  • Value added tax (VAT) with respect to the construction sector, as well as vehicle registration
  • Increased excise taxes on certain products
  • Increased tax rate on bunkering of fuels
  • Motor vehicle registration and tax licensing
