Hong Kong - Expanded provisions for tax information exchange agreements

July 23:  Legislation passed in July 2013 by the Legislative Council allows Hong Kong to enter into tax information exchange agreements as stand-alone agreements.

The measures also allow for enhancements to existing exchange of information arrangements under Hong Kong’s income tax treaty network, thereby allowing for exchanged information to be used for non-tax related purposes (provided such use is permitted under the laws of both jurisdictions and the competent authority of the information-supplying party authorizes this non-tax use of the information).
