China - Review of 2012 tax policies, their 2013 implications

December 21: The second edition of China - Looking Ahead, the most recent in a series published in association with KPMG, contains articles that review China’s major tax policies and practices in 2012, evaluate their impact on multinational companies, and consider possible changes to the Chinese tax regulations in the new year.

The current edition provides analyses and comments on key developments in China’s tax system in light of the priorities laid out in China’s 12th Five Year Plan, which covers 2011 to 2015 (approved in March 2011 by the National People’s Congress).

The articles consider China’s attempts to align its rules with international practice in areas such as transfer pricing, anti- avoidance and environmental taxation.

This edition examines topics including:

  • VAT reform expansion in China in 2013
  • What the tax authorities will look for in tax and transfer pricing audits
  • Whether advance ruling will become a reality
  • Challenges faced by private equity funds in 2013
  • The impact of tax on the development of Islamic finance in Hong Kong
