September 4: For much of the past 30 years, manufacturing investment has been the driving force behind the foreign direct investment landscape in China, and China has developed a global reputation as the factory of the world.

However, the focus of China’s government, domestic companies, and global corporations is now shifting toward research and development (R&D).
