Canada - New SR&ED form for research expenses

November 7:  The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) released a revised version of Form T661, Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Expenditures Claim.

The revisions address legislative changes proposed in the 2013 and 2012 federal budgets and that will be effective starting 1 January 2014.

Also, changes to the form were made to make it consistent with the consolidated SR&ED policy documents released in December 2012.

  • The CRA has advised that the revised Form T661(13) will be effective as of its publication date (31 October 2013).
  • The CRA will accept the existing T661(12) version of the form until 31 December 2013.
  • Beginning 1 January 2014, the CRA will accept only the new T661(13) version of the form for all tax years.
