March 19:   Argentina’s tax administration on 18 March 2013 published a resolution amending the rules for remitting foreign consumption tax (percepciones a los
consumos en el exterior).

Resolución General (AFIP) 3450 includes the following changes concerning remittances of the foreign consumption tax:

  • The tax now applies to the purchase of foreign travel services made through Argentine travel and tourism agencies, as well as to the purchase of ground, air and water transport to international destinations.
  • The tax rate applicable to foreign currency transactions using a credit / debit card or online is increased to 20% (previously 15%), and not limited to travel services.

The resolution also provides the necessary instructions for travel agencies collecting the tax, and is effective on the date of its publication.
