2011 Asia Pacific Tax Summit Opening Video

2011 Asia Pacific Tax Summit – Opening Video:

The world is moving faster and faster and becoming increasingly complex therefore my role is becoming increasingly complex to.

The pace of change is accelerating

We no longer operate in just one jurisdiction and the environment we operate in presents us with huge challenges now and in the future.

As our businesses continue to globalize, I need to ensure we can navigate the complex mix of national, state and local taxes.

What are the future tax implications of Cloud computing?

We are seeing Tax authorities becoming increasingly aggressive. My challenge in the future is to deal with their new demands.

The largest trend these days is certainly the explosion in transfer pricing, that is an area that affects every single country. Every revenue authority is focussed on transfer pricing, even for small companies.

One of my biggest concerns is managing risk.

Tax authorities are working closer together and increasingly exchanging information and I wonder how this will change my role.

The corporate tax framework has reached a level of maturity, and we are seeing the rise of indirect taxes globally.

I would say the biggest challenge at the moment is finding that right balance between both managing risk and also delivering value with the organization.

How do I enhance my relationships with tax authorities in order to avoid future disputes?

The rise of environmental taxes in the future is inevitable, they are not only a great revenue source for governments but they also that have the support of public opinion.

Is taxation really the right way to drive behavioural change?

What is the future of carbon pricing?

Indirect tax authorities are talking to each other so if you see a new initiative in Singapore, it won’t be long before you see that initiative in say Australia or New Zealand or even Japan.

The key trend in transfer pricing is more paperwork, more auditing, and more disputes.

What will be the future impact on technology on tax?

The pace of technological change is staggering, and I need to be thinking about the effect this will have on our business model and my tax department

Successful companies will be those that focus on the future while still managing the present.

Summit opening day video highlights the topics and themes around the tax challenges and changes happening now and in the future in the Asia Pacific region.
