Attend the Middle East and South Asia Family Business Conference in Dubai

Family business conference
KPMG is preparing for its first flagship event in the UAE, The MESA Family Business Conference set to take place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd November 2013 at Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel in Dubai. This is KPMG’s first event in the UAE in the areas of Emerging Markets and Family Business, and it promises to be an insightful one.

The aim is to bring together Family Business owners for a full day of insightful presentations, networking, and panel debates. The conference’s agenda aligns strategy with key points debated by subject experts across the region.

There is a lot of focus on SMEs and family businesses across the entire Gulf region, and specifically those in the private sector. Given that more than 90% of companies fall into this category, government and financial institutions are increasingly focusing on this sector.

Focusing on family business

Key speakers on the day include Christine Blondel and Jamal Fakhro.

Christine Blondel is Adjunct Professor of Family Business at The Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise at INSEAD. She is the co-programme director of the Family Enterprise Challenge, INSEAD four-day educational programme for family businesses. She advises several business families, serves on boards of traded family-influenced companies, and regularly speaks in conferences.

Jamal Fakhro is Managing Partner of KPMG in (RC) Bahrain and Qatar, and a member of the KPMG International Council. He is also chairman of KPMG’s Middle East and South Asia regional (RC) (MESA) board, and KPMG’s Middle East Executive Committee.

Some of the topics the event plans to address include:

  • Succession Planning
  • Governance
  • Understanding the dynamics of the European Family Businesses and its relevance to the region.

The conference will also host a panel discussion focused on prominent family businesses in the MESA region and their success stories in managing key issues such as succession and professionalism, boards of directors, and other crucial factors governing business.
