A team of four students from the University of Queensland has won the 2014 KPMG International Case Competition (KICC) final held last week in São Paulo, Brazil. The team from Australia will receive an exclusive and all-expenses-paid two week “Entrepreneurship” training at the Babson College in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
Now in its eleventh year, KICC is one of the world’s largest case competitions and represents KPMG’s flagship student recruitment initiative. This year, KICC drew some 16,000 students from more than 440 universities in 23 countries to compete against each other in developing solutions to realistic business scenarios and challenges.
This year the final competing teams were asked to analyze a case on Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking) and its environmental, financial and political implications. The challenge was to prepare a compelling set of recommendations and an engaging presentation for a panel of leaders from across KPMG’s global network of member firms. After careful deliberation, the Australian Team was selected as the winner due to their innovative approach, insight into the subject matter, and the passion exhibited in their presentation. The team included Johnny Black, Lachlan Campbell, Sam Leigh and Dan Mouat.
“The students that make it to the KPMG International Case Competition Global Final get more and more talented every year. It’s been a privilege to bring so many of them here to Brazil’s vibrant financial center of São Paulo and provide this unique learning experience once again,” said Iain McLaughlin, KPMG’s Head of Global Resourcing. “Congratulations to the team from Australia and to all participating teams who won their national competitions to make the global finals.”
Rachel Campbell, Global Head of People Performance & Culture at KPMG International said: “Every year the quality of the students and the competition increases. It is an enlightening experience to see how the students approach business issues. This year’s students all worked exceptionally hard to get here, but there can only be one winning team and this year our congratulations go to Team Australia.”
