KPMG International appoints new global insurance practice leader

KPMG International is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Reader as Global Head of Insurance, effective October 1. Gary was most recently the insurance sector leader for advisory services for KPMG in the UK where he led a number of key international advisory projects.

“Global insights are key to insurance clients, who face a fast changing world,” said Jeremy Anderson, Chairman, Global Financial Services, KPMG International. “With his international background, and extensive experience with KPMG firms’ global insurance clients, Gary has a well-earned reputation for helping clients navigate this changing landscape. As Global Head of Insurance, Gary will continue to help member firms drive innovative strategies for their insurance clients around the globe.”

Gary’s career with the KPMG organization spans 28 years, 25 of which have been dedicated to the insurance industry. Based in London as KPMG’s Global Insurance Advisory Lead, Gary has also spent time with KPMG’s Australian, Swiss and U.S. practices. He has led global engagements that touch all aspects of the insurance industry, working with clients on finance change programs, regulatory reforms, and IFRS and US GAAP conversion projects. He also manages senior relationships with global insurance clients and will continue to do so as a partner for KPMG in the UK.

“As the insurance industry faces significant change and challenges, there is also the opportunity to grow and evolve on a global scale,” said Gary. “KPMG firms around the world are working with their insurance clients to meet change with innovation, and I am thrilled to take on new responsibilities for helping them shape the way forward.”

In addition to Gary’s global responsibilities, he will continue to lead the general insurance practice for KPMG in the UK.

Gary takes over from Frank Ellenbürger, who will remain an integral member of KPMG’s global insurance leadership team.

“It is a great honor to assume the reins from Frank,” said Gary. “Frank has been instrumental in building KPMG’s global insurance practice and I look forward to continuing to work with him as he assumes new responsibilities.”

Gary will continue to build a strong global practice of talented insurance professionals, bringing together expertise in audit, tax and advisory services to foster innovative, pragmatic solutions for insurance clients.
