The award is presented to businesses that demonstrate leadership, sup¬port and commitment to the IGLCC, and to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities (LGBT) on an international level.
"KPMG’s support of the IGLCC comes at a time when understanding the relevance of equal policies and practices has an international urgency," said Pascal Lépine, Secretary General at IGLCC. "We see this understanding as essential for corporations to succeed in working with the LGBT community. We applaud KPMG’s vision and support of what we believe is the core of our mission."
"We are honored to receive this recognition from the IGLCC," said Michael Bach, deputy director of diversity at KPMG International. "KPMG has long been committed to making our organization a great place to work and build a career and that includes creating an inclusive and welcoming work environment that embraces individual differences and supports the development of all our people."
KPMG member firms across the globe have continued to create programs that promote an inclusive environment for all, irrespective of sexual orientation, including:
- — several KPMG member firms established affinity groups for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender partners in employees including KPMG in the U.K., which launched the Breathe network in 2002; KPMG in the US, which founded pride@kpmg in 2004; and KPMG in Australia, which launched the KPMG Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Employee Network (KGEN) in 2008.
- — a number of KPMG member firms operate diversity awareness training sessions. For example, in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, part of that training covers LGBT issues and is tailored for specific audiences including staff, managers and partners.
- — KPMG regularly conducts employee surveys on both a global and national level designed to engage various demographic groups so that it can continue to develop a culture of inclusiveness. In 2008, LGBT was included for the first time as a demographic group in the firm’s Global People Survey which is completed by more than 80 member firms around the world.
