KPMG Congratulates the University of Regensburg in Germany, the 2011 SIFE World Cup Champions

KPMG International congratulates the team from the University of Regensburg in Germany, the 2011 Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) World Cup Champions. KPMG has been involved in SIFE since 1996 and today provides national support in over 30 countries.

SIFE brings together a diverse and global network of university students, academic professionals and industry leaders around the shared mission of creating a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business.

Each country that operates a SIFE national organization is eligible to send a national champion team to the SIFE World Cup, where they present the results of their community outreach projects to panels of business leaders serving as judges. Through a written annual report and live audio visual presentation, teams are evaluated based on how successful they were at creating economic opportunity for others.

The presentation theme from University of Regensburg was "Tearing down walls to open gates”, and focused on three projects serving to make a positive impact on the environment, society and the economy. These projects were launched in Germany, Romania, Turkey and Bulgaria.

KPMG would also like to congratulate the other 2011 SIFE World Cup finalists:

  • 2nd Place: Chinhoyi University of Technology, Zimbabwe
  • 3rd Place: University of Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico
  • 4th Place: University of the Valley of Guatemala, Guatemala

KPMG has played a critical role in the international expansion of SIFE, providing support and staff involvement in dozens of countries and serving as one of the sponsors of the first SIFE World Cup in 2001.  KPMG’s long standing relationship with SIFE was strengthened this week with the announcement of KPMG’s new agreement to become the official presenting sponsor of the SIFE World Cup for the next 3 years.

“SIFE students are some of the most dynamic and compelling young adults anywhere and we are privileged to support SIFE in over 30 countries backing them country by country and globally as the first World Cup presenting sponsor for the next three years,” says Lord Michael Hastings of Scarisbrick CBE, Global Head of Citizenship and Diversity, KPMG International. “That means we can demonstrate our commitment to the students and vividly demonstrate our values as a business organization. All round, that makes us proud to work with SIFE and keen to learn year by year from tomorrow’s leaders.”
