Recent discussions around future energy sources have focused on renewable and natural gas. Yet, while the landscape is changing, coal has continued to be a strong energy source both in the U.S. and across the globe. While the energy from coal may decline as a percentage of total energy produced in the future, the increased worldwide demand for electricity would result in more coal being used than ever before. Coal’s continued presence as a leading energy source is closely tied to the advancement of clean coal technologies and coal’s continued status as a low-cost energy source.
