Values in action — thinking beyond book.
KPMG in the U.S. is the sole corporate sponsor of RBI, an outreach program for inner city children that increases participation in baseball and softball, and encourages academic achievement. In addition, they work with First Book, putting new books into the hands of underprivileged children. KPMG in the U.K. is co-sponsoring a new City Academy in London, a non-selective school which opens in 2009 and which will offer 900 places for 11–16 year olds.
On 12 May 2008, an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale hit Wenchuan County in Sichuan province, obliterating towns and villages and killing nearly 70,000 people. As well as donating RMB7.2 million and volunteering more than 6,600 hours of time, people from KPMG China helped the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation with their procurement process and in setting up a logistics center.
Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is a global non-profit organization active in more than 44 countries. It mobilizes university students to make a difference to their communities while developing their skills to become socially responsible business leaders. KPMG has been involved in SIFE since 1996 and today provides support in over 35 countries.
