Renewing the promise: Time to mend relationships in investment management

This report seeks to provide investment managers with insights from investors into the current and anticipated future nature of this new world, and provides ideas on how to navigate through it. Crucially, it argues that one of the keys to recovery for companies and the industry, lies in large-scale change and in mending relationships through improving communication and transparency within the industry.
The results of the survey indicate:

  • investment managers and investors have divergent views on how much progress the industry has made in improving risk management and corporate governance procedures

  • the reputation of financial intermediaries, the investor-facing advisors, has been hit hard

  • there are widespread concerns about the impact of potential new regulations

  • differentiation is critical. Investment managers believe the best way for them to differentiate is to concentrate on dealing with investor problems quickly and efficiently — a result which may suggest that the industry is suffering from a lack of strategic vision.
