Following on from the highly successful 2006 handbook, KPMG’s 2008 Airline Disclosures Handbook continues to explore the key accounting disclosure issues currently faced by the industry.
Retaining focus across both IFRS and U.S.-GAAP reporters, this volume examines disclosures relating to loyalty programs, carbon abatement programs, airline segment reporting, and the use of options to manage foreign exchange and commodity exposures. The handbook highlights some of the key considerations in applying the possible accounting methodologies or policies underpinning each of the disclosures.
Additionally, the handbook expands on accounting and financial reporting to examine those non-financial measures disclosed by a number of airlines. With the increasing focus on measures other than revenue, expenses, assets and liabilities being used by market participants to judge the success of a company, the disclosure of items such as carbon emissions, employee safety and economic impact is becoming common. The handbook examines the basis of disclosure adopted in a number of airlines non-financial reports and also assesses the level of assurance, if any.
