An internationally recognized leader in hospital administration, Janet’s experience across the public, government and voluntary sectors has given her a unique perspective on healthcare systems. She uses this know-how to restructure operations and focus staff on frontline services.
After training as a nurse, Janet worked her way up into senior management, most recently as President and CEO of Trillium Health Centre, a large acute hospital in Toronto with an operating budget of CAD$450 million, which she helped transform into one of Canada’s leading medical institutions.
Janet has carried out several major turnarounds, including time as interim CEO of Kingston General Hospital in Ontario, where she developed a financial recovery plan and overhauled the executive team.
She was COO of a large acute hospital in Vancouver, BC with a CAD$750 million budget, and also Assistant Deputy Minister of the Department of Health for the Government of Alberta, with a wide range of responsibilities including funding systems, accountability agreements and performance monitoring.
In recognition of Janet’s outstanding contributions, both nationally and internationally, she was named an Officer of the Order of Canada (OC) in 2006 – Canada’s highest civilian award. She is a board member of the Ontario Hospital Association, the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and the Canadian Institute for Health Information and has a Masters in Health Services Administration.
