Christine:

How does KPMG support flexible working policies?
KPMG offers a host of flexible programs for our people to take advantage of, to help them at different periods throughout their career when they need to have either reduced work schedules or spend more time working from home; we see more and more of our people taking advantage of those programs.

But what's even more important than the flex programs is the cultural change I see us going through, where we are creating a culture that is more supportive of flexible work arrangements. Where it really is OK for our people to take advantage of those flex programs that are offered.

Do you take part in any charitable activities?
I believe it's very important to give back to our communities. It's been one of the most enriching parts of my career, spending time through board-level activity in a number of community organizations, and KPMG firms support that. Support it in terms of the time I give, support it in terms of even donating and contributing to these organizations.

The contacts we make through charitable and community activities are enriching to our own lives. The contacts help us personally and professionally and I can't understate the importance of giving back to the communities.

What would you say to a young person just joining KPMG?
If someone were just joining KPMG, there are three things I'd share with them. One is the importance of taking control of your own destiny. It's really important to communicate the things that are important to you and what your goals are so that we at KPMG can help you achieve those goals.

But secondly I think it's really important for you to think about what your personal goals are and to remain true to those goals and find ways to achieve balance in your life between your professional and your personal goals.

And thirdly I would say I believe it is very important to find a way to have fun in your career at KPMG.
During my time at KPMG I have been lead engagement partner on several of the US firm's largest consumer market clients. I am currently Partner-in-Charge of consumer markets in the southeast US, overseeing Audit, Tax and Advisory services to retailers, restaurant companies, consumer packaged goods, and food and drink. For several years now I have been promoting the mentoring, development and advancement of women, which has helped to enrich the experience for women at KPMG. I have an active interest in diversity issues and I currently serve on four not-for-profit community boards. For example, I serve KPMG's Women's Advisory Board, as well as being the Executive Sponsor for KPMG's Network of Women in Atlanta.
