Northern Ontario

When you picture Northern Ontario, the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield often comes to mind. This lovely landscape, with its forests and lakes, is a prime location for year-round sports and leisure activities. The region’s large francophone community adds to its cultural diversity, while its economy has expanded beyond traditional resource-based industries. It all adds up to this: a wonderful quality of life and a challenging career at KPMG are waiting for you in Northern Ontario.

Our Northern Ontario Practice

KPMG is one of the largest professional services firms in Northern Ontario and has professionals divided between our Parry Sound, Sudbury, North Bay, and Sault Ste. Marie locations. We deliver audit, tax and advisory services to individuals, entrepreneurial businesses, corporations, First Nations and Aboriginal clients, and public-sector institutions such as municipalities, school boards, hospitals, colleges and universities.

Parry Sound

Parry Sound is considered the jewel of the 30,000 islands on Georgian Bay. Known for its rugged shoreline and warm hospitality, Parry Sound is a picturesque town just a short two-hour drive north of the Greater Toronto Area.

Home to numerous attractions, including the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame, Parry Sound is an appealing destination all year long. Tourism is a major industry focus for the region, as well as First Nations and public-sector institutions.

Greater Sudbury, with a population of over 157,000, is the largest city in Northern Ontario and home to the Big Nickel, the world’s largest coin. Traditionally known as a mining town, the city’s economy has become much more diversified in recent years.

Not far from the Sudbury office you can explore the wonders of Science North-Dynamic Earth; enjoy fresh produce, baked goods and international fare at Market Square; dine at delicious restaurants and cafés; and take in professional theatre, fantastic festivals, art galleries, museums and more.

Sudbury has also undertaken a land reclamation program that has won international acclaim. You’ll see lots of green spaces, provincial parks and beautiful lakes that make Sudbury a destination for outdoor activities like hiking, boating, snowshoeing and camping.

North Bay

This growing city, located between Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake, has always been an important transportation centre linking Southern and Northern Ontario. Today North Bay is more economically diverse than many other Northern Ontario communities and has, for example, developed a strong manufacturing sector as well as a solid telecommunications infrastructure that has helped establish a significant information technology base in the city.

Our North Bay office’s partners and employees enjoy all the amenities of a larger city, including a vibrant arts community that features a symphony, professional theatre and galleries. The city also boasts a multitude of recreational attractions to keep you active all year long, from multi-use trails to its waterfront paths and beaches.

Sault Ste. Marie

This city sits on the lovely St. Mary’s River. Historically, Sault Ste. Marie’s economy has been rooted in the forestry industry and steel manufacturing. Today, the economy has expanded a great deal to include, among others, manufacturing, information technology, tourism, health care, small business, professional services and the public sector.

Our office is just steps from all the attractions of downtown—from upscale dining and boutiques to galleries, theatre and the symphony. Parks, gardens and trails are also nearby, and the waterfront boardwalk is the perfect place to take a stroll and grab some fresh air any time of the day.

With all of these attractions, Sault Ste. Marie offers the best of both worlds.
