KPMG’s Ace the Case program is catered to accounting students to help jump start their career in public accounting. This wide-ranging program provides students, like you, with the opportunity to participate in a case workshop and competition that will provide you technical knowledge, transferable skills and exciting networking opportunities.
Engaging Students at the Local, National and Global level
Locally, Ace the Case is a two day event. Day 1 is a workshop, lead by Densmore Consulting in four of our National offices. During the workshop, you will learn how to plan, analyze, write, and present a case. This is an excellent opportunity for you to get a head-start for the case based examination, The Uniform Evaluation (UFE). On the second day of the workshop, you will have the opportunity to work in teams to showcase the skills you have acquired and your presentation abilities. Winning teams from each local workshop will earn the opportunity to compete at the National level via video-conference. The winning team of the National finals will be granted the opportunity to represent Canada on the global stage at KPMG’s International Case Competition, which will be held in Madrid, Spain this April!

Developing as a professional
Ace the Case is a unique opportunity to learn from the best and for KPMG to share with you our valuable resources, helping you develop as a professional. Zahra Kassam from the Schulich School of Business participated in Ace the Case last year in the Toronto office.
"Ace the Case was an amazing experience. Not only was I able to meet students from different universities across Ontario, but I was able to strengthen my soft skills. Through an amazing case workshop and competition I got relevant feedback and experience that has helped me in my class work and other external case competitions."
Networking opportunities
Throughout the program, you will meet and network with participants from various universities as well as KPMG professionals in your local office! Gabriel Giguère, from HEC Montreal participated in Ace the Case last year in the Montreal office.
Gabriel emphasizes that “during this amazing experience I had the chance to meet with professionals from KPMG who are truly devoted to our success. I also created friendships with students from different universities and developed a strong work method during case analysis. Ace the Case is a great opportunity for students to unleash their potential and to gain a valuable experience in an accounting firm.”
Global exposure
In a rapidly globalizing business environment, the KPMG’s International Case Competition challenges students to think outside of their country borders by introducing them to real life issues faced by international companies. Erika Dizon from University of British Columbia represented Canada with other members of her Vancouver team, at KPMG’s International Case Competition (KICC) in Hong Kong last year.

Members of the national winning team from Vancouver at KPMG’s International Case Competition in Hong-Kong (2012).
Erika reflects on her global KICC experience by saying “Having the opportunity to represent Canada on an international stage at KICC was a remarkable experience. Throughout the preparation process and during the competition itself, my team and I were able to analyze real companies and the issues that they faced. We drew upon our business knowledge and collectively were able to present recommendations that often had a great focus on an integrated global strategy. Participating in the competition gave me a snapshot of what my future career could look like. Being exposed to these cases, I learned how important globalization has become in today’s world and I was able to broaden my international business perspective. KICC also provided us with such a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded peers and KPMG representatives from across the world – all in the fast-paced city of Hong Kong! I was able to learn so much about different cultures and business styles across several countries, which will be so valuable to my future career with KPMG.”
