Social Media set to transform talent attraction for KPMG

This month KPMG in Canada moved from the sidelines to the frontlines in the social media universe. “We see social media increasing its role in recruiting and want to move our firm in this exciting new direction,” says Moses Bar-Yoseph, National Director, Talent Attraction.

Several platforms are being launched simultaneously. A new Facebook page is focused on engaging with students and potential hires. When they come to the page, students can:

  • Use an interactive map to search for campus ambassadors
  • View FIT magazine
  • Search job postings
  • Sign up for events

“Attracting and retaining the top talent continues to be the focus of our recruitment strategy,” says Moses. “With social media, we’re able to actively engage with young people where they are and build our brand awareness.”

Talent attraction and recruitment managers are hoping that the KPMG message gets talked about and passed around on campus, not just on Facebook but with a rebranded Twitter page and YouTube page, also launching this month.

Learn about careers

The social media universe at KPMG isn’t limited to campus life; the firm is also targeting the experienced professionals market. To that end, a new Twitter page is being launched for experienced professionals and a LinkedIn Careers page on the LinkedIn Corporate page with a full listing of job opportunities at the firm.

“Social media also gives us a wonderful avenue for connecting with KPMG alumni,” says Moses. “In many ways, they are our initial fans and have wonderful networks we can tap into.” Alumni are being invited to join the KPMG in Canada Alumni LinkedIn Group.

Some would say it’s about time, but the attraction team knew that the project would fail if proper attention wasn’t paid to developing quality design and content. “We knew we couldn’t make our social media platforms just an extension of the KPMG website,” says Brandon Lewis from Talent Attraction, who led the social media project.

Right out of the gate, the attraction team is looking for creative ways of engaging with visitors to the pages and turning them into fans. There are all kinds of possibilities, many of which will come from the users themselves.

“That is ultimately the goal of social media,” says Brandon, “People come to socialize with other liked-minded people, maybe brag a bit, and learn more about career possibilities at KPMG. For us, this is a great opportunity to connect with new talent over a period of time and build relationships.” After all, recruitment never stops.
