KPMG Celebrates Pride Week 2011

Toronto Pride Week was yet again a fantastic event and KPMG couldn’t have been more excited! Why? Because KPMG and Pride week have a lot in common – both value diversity and respect as essential characteristics of a successful organization.  Not to mention, it’s a great celebration!

“KPMG proudly supported Toronto Pride Week and I know that our people were very excited to be involved again this year,” says Michael Bach, Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, KPMG.  “Our firm is constantly striving to ensure an inclusive workplace culture where everyone can succeed, and our LGBT community is no exception.”

In fact, KPMG supports Pride in a few different ways all year round.

pride@kpmg is our firm’s People Network for Lesbian Gay Bi-Sexual and Trans-identified (LGBT) people and their allies at KPMG. Through pride@kpmg, we aim to encourage and support members by providing professional development resources, peer communication and community outreach. In addition to supporting our people, the network also supports the LGBT community across Canada by sponsoring such initiatives as Calgary Cares, the Gay and Lesbian Business Association of British Columbia, and the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto.

Another way KPMG aims to support Pride is through our partnership with Pride at Work Canada.  Pride at Work Canada is a not-for-profit organization comprised of corporate partners from across the country who are committed to supporting inclusive work environments for LGBT communities. As a founding partner, KPMG works to empower employees in advancing positive change in their workplaces.  This year for the second year KPMG people will be marching with Pride at Work Canada in pride parades across the country.  Look for us in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Montreal!

Outside of our own workplace environment, KPMG sponsors the LGBT Giving Network. This is a network of organizations that work together to engage and cultivate lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified and allied donors, helping to secure financial support and build stronger LGBT communities across Canada.
