Starr Carson


Starr Carson joined the Kamloops office of KPMG in the fall of 1993 after relocating from Vancouver, where he had previously worked in the profession for 8 years. Starr has focused on Tax and Advisory services for over 15 years. He was admitted to the partnership in 1997.


While at KPMG, Starr has been a frequent speaker and lecturer on a wide variety of tax and business issues in various media, including the CICA In-Depth Tax Course. He currently focuses on corporate and personal tax planning, primarily for owner-managed private corporations.


Starr is an avid hockey player, skier, and golfer. Much of his spare time in the summer is spent with his wife and two children at their vacation home on Shuswap Lake.

 

Paula Presta

Paula joined the firm in 1996 as a co-op summer student while working towards my Bachelor of Business at the University of Victoria. Paula currently works in the Audit/Advisory practice and work with a diverse set of clients, from the forestry industry to retail hair salons.

In 1999, Paula transferred to the Vancouver office and worked in their Information, Communications & Entertainment group on public offerings and exciting software start-up companies. Paula took an international transfer to KPMG in the UK's London office in 2003-2005, where Paula worked with global companies and had the opportunity to be both a People Leader and a Team Leader.

Paula sit on the Board of Venture Kamloops as Treasurer and Paula is an active member of the Rotary Club in Kamloops. Most of my spare time is spent with my young son.

 

Scott Tupper

Scott Tupper began his career with KPMG in 1983, leaving the firm to join a successful small business practice, before being instrumental in its merger with KPMG in January 2007. His practice includes numerous small and medium size enterprises with a focus on value added practical accounting, tax and management advise. His clients range from single employee professionals to manufacturing facilities employing 300 people.


Scott’s passion is helping people reach their full potential, weather clients or employees.  He enjoys nothing more that finding a unique solution to problems.  Scott has recently been elected to the People Leader roll for the 80 person KPMG Kamloops office.

 

Scott believes that when you are fortunate enough to be successful in your career it behooves you to give as much back to your community as possible.  As a result his volunteer activities include the President of the Kamloops Symphony Society and the Foundation, director of the Pink Ribbon Ball Society, the KPMG Charitable Foundation, the Chair Person for the Cantabile Choir, the Financial Agent for the Kamloops Thompson Cariboo Conservative EDA, and has acted as the Official Agent for Cathy McLeod’s 2011 Federal Election Campaign.  In his spare time he enjoys sports such as hockey, golf and running.   He also has a passion for singing and performs with the Kamloops Symphony Chorus and other choirs at every opportunity. 

 

Justin Harrison

Justin joined KPMG in September 2002 after completing the BBA program at the University College of the Cariboo. In 2004 and 2005, Justin spent several months in San Francisco working for KPMG on public company insurance and software company audits. Justin is currently a Senior Manager in the Kamloops office and focuses on a wide range of Audit/KPMG Enterprise clients. Justin has led the Campus Recruiting team for KPMG's Okanagan Thompson offices for 2007 and 2008.


Outside of work Justin enjoys golfing, playing soccer, and boating.

 

Marlyse Wharton

Marlyse Wharton

 

Marlyse joined KPMG in 2007 after completing her Bachelor of Business Administration at Thompson Rivers University. She articled in the Kamloops office and successfully passed the UFE in December 2009. Marlyse worked in the Audit and Enterprise Practice for 3 years where her primary focus was a large government entity. In October 2010, Marlyse joined the Tax Practice and is currently completing her In-Depth Tax Course.

 

While at KPMG, Marlyse has taken on additional roles as a UFE mentor, a member of the recruiting team and a member the office social committee. This will be her first year as the lead Campus Recruiter. Outside of work, Marlyse volunteers with the YWCA. She also enjoys cooking, shopping, yoga, playing soccer, golf and volleyball; and spending quality time with her friends and family.


Matt Richmond

Matt Richmond joined KPMG in September 2008 after completing the BBA program at Thompson Rivers University.  Matt started as an auditing student and continues to work on various assurance engagements at the KPMG Kamloops location.

 

While at KPMG, Matt has spent time completing studies through the CA School of Business (CASB) and after completion wrote and successfully passed the UFE in 2010.  Matt is currently involved in UFE mentorship program and KPMG's UFE preparation program at Brentwood.


When Matt is not working at KPMG he enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as physical activities such as running, mountain biking and downhill skiing/snowboarding.
