Alyssa Buzzelli

The KPMG Summer Internship Program was the perfect way for Alyssa to continue her summer in Toronto immediately upon return from her 6 month exchange in Milan, Italy. Upon completion of the mid-summer training week in July 2012, Alyssa joined the Consumer Markets group where she was immediately assigned to a client engagement. Alyssa enjoyed working as a team with other staff and managers and being able to apply her knowledge in a professional setting. Outside of work, she enjoys staying travelling, staying active and spending time with family and friends. Alyssa’s favourite part of the summer was having the opportunity to meet new people all the time, both within the immediate environment at KPMG and the external environment during direct client engagements and other social opportunities.

Jackson Chan

Jackson joined the KPMG team after finishing his third year at the Schulich School of Business. During his rotation program, Jackson worked in Risk Consulting (IT Advisory), and then a rotation in the audit practice with the Energy, Mining, and Industrial Markets group (EMI). In the Risk Consulting rotation, Jackson had the opportunity to work on multiple clients related to pension administration.

Outside of work, Jackson spends most of his time with friends and family. He has several interests, including interior design, woodworking projects, cooking, and ultimate Frisbee. The ultimate Frisbee team at KPMG is without a doubt one of the best experiences of the summer. However, the best experience of the summer was meeting all the great people and fellow interns at KPMG and forging unforgettable friendships with them.

The experience led her to gain high industry exposure through the various interactions with senior staff and diverse client base.

When not working, one can find Jennifer spending time with her family and friends, conquering shopping malls, listening to live music, and travelling. Jennifer is excited to be heading off to Paris, France on exchange for her upcoming winter term and plans on taking in all that Europe has to offer.

Jennifer would not have had such a memorable summer with KPMG if it were not for all the amazing individuals she met along the way.  She enjoyed having the opportunity to work and volunteer alongside the other interns and staff at the numerous social and volunteer events.

Ryan started off his summer internship in the Enterprise industry group. In the midst of Enterprise’s business season, Ryan had the opportunity to participate in many aspects of an audit. He learned what it took to communicate effectively in a team and especially with a client to get the job done. In his second rotation, Ryan joined the National Campus Recruiting at KPMG with a focus on KPMG’s Executive Look event. Aside from work, Ryan enjoys catching up on television series, exploring the city for new restaurants and most of all singing and performing on stage.

Ryan’s favourite part of the summer was getting to meet all the summer interns at work and at the many socials planned by the firm.

Paniz started with KPMG in May 2012 for her summer internship, after completing her second year at the Schulich School of Business-York University. She had the fantastic opportunity to spend her first rotation in KPMG’s Finance Department, and the second half of the summer in the Financial Institutions audit group. Her rotational experience at KPMG exposed her to various fields of business, including accounting, strategy and finance, which proved to be a great learning experience. During her internship, she was also a part of the community committee at KPMG and volunteered at various events with the KPMG team.

Paniz has a passion for traveling, with a goal of visiting at least two new countries every year. She also loves swimming, watching movies and spending time with her family and friends. Julia Rea

jrea13@schulich.yorku.ca

Julia began her second summer internship in the FI practice in July. Julia knew her experience would be incredible with her first week consisting of a boat cruise, a case competition, and volunteering with Me to We!  What remained consistent throughout her summer internships are that the interns gain actual client experience.  A stand out factor for Julia was that the interns are always involved in audit engagements and treated as valuable team members. Julia was entrusted with certain sections of the audit and even had the opportunity to interview a client. All of which was possible with the supportive and respectful environment that KPMG provides.

When Julia was not busy working on a client, she was involved with the social committee planning the next events for the interns. This was a great way to meet the other interns and become involved in KPMG’s dynamic community. Outside of work, Julia enjoys travelling and completed a semester abroad in Italy.

Nirav Shah

nshah14@schulich.yorku.ca

Nirav Shah is entering his third year of studies at the Schulich School of Business in York University. Nirav’s experience with KPMG this summer was twofold: Work hard, play hard! He began his rotation working in Audit – Financial Institutions where he had great exposure to partake in many aspects of an Audit. One of the things that stood out to Nirav was that as a summer student he had the opportunity to be directly involved with actual client work and was held accountable to real responsibilities. For his second rotation Nirav was selected to represent KPMG Canada internationally as a Global Intern working abroad in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the month of July.

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him where he was able to work abroad and gain an understanding of KPMG’s business activities on a global level. He did his rotation in Tax in Johannesburg, South Africa and loved the people on his team! He had the time of his life, was able to adapt to the work ethic of KPMG there and meet new people along with travelling and sightseeing. The Global Internship Program enabled him to advance his personal leadership skills and gain practical knowledge through the various clients he was put on. He was able to expand his KPMG network internationally and was exposed to KPMG’S workplace culture in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Nirav was also involved with the Social Committee which planned various events for the Interns throughout the summer. Nirav’s favourite part of the summer apart from his Global Internship experience in South Africa, was getting to know all of the Interns through socials, training sessions and volunteer events. KPMG without a doubt was a Perfect Fit for Nirav!

Mariam Siha

mariam.siha@gmail.com

Mariam started her summer internship with KPMG after completing her third year at Schulich School of Business. Her first rotation was in Campus Recruiting where she was able to take part in recruiting events such as the Experience Community Leadership at Free the Children. She enjoyed being directly involved with the planning and logistics of events. This non audit rotation provided Mariam with insight into the great opportunities available throughout KPMG which she finds extremely important to her career development. In July, Mariam started her audit rotation in the Enterprise group. This rotation was interesting as she got to work on various private businesses. She learned a lot during this rotation because she was directly involved with client work.

During her internship Mariam was a member of the Community Leader Committee and participated in various events such as the World Partnership Walk, Motion Ball and the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament.

When she is not at work, Mariam enjoys spending time with her family and friends, doing hot yoga and working out at the gym. Mariam also enjoys playing volleyball and was a member of a recreational league over the summer. She also is very passionate about teaching and has taught English in both Egypt and Italy.
