History/Grant Activities

The KPMG Foundation was incorporated under the Canada Corporations Act on October 26, 1987. KPMG established the Foundation to assist it in the promotion of its mission to be a socially responsible and civic-minded organization. The Foundation acts as a catalyst in the mobilization of KPMG and its people in giving back to their communities.

From 1995 to 2007, the Foundation has distributed grants in excess of CDN $13.4 million. With the exception of one specific appeal in 2001, in which donations were solicited from all KPMG people, the grants are funded entirely by the partners of KPMG.

Over the last 13 years, approximately $4.4 million went to Canadian universities, while the balance of the grants were given to a variety of other Canadian charities.

The Foundation has the following three grant programs:

  • Grants to post-secondary Canadian education institutions (mainly universities)
  • Matching Grants (for KPMG people giving to post-secondary education institutions)
  • Non-Education Grants.

All donations to the Foundation by the partners of KPMG are distributed as grants to Canadian charitable organizations, as there are minimal expenses incurred by the Foundation.
