The 24th Quarterly C-Suite Survey: The Global Economy, Finance, Consumer Confidence, and Emerging Markets

What is the Canadian C-Suite thinking?

C-Suite confidence in the economy has waned, with most executives expecting recession in the US, worried about recession in Canada and are continuing to keep an eye on the challenging developments in Europe.

The outlook is not as bleak as it was in 2008 at the onset of the global financial crisis, and the survey finds that companies that have an emerging markets strategy are more optimistic about their companies’ prospects.

Other key findings include:

  • The C-Suite cited conservative business plans in reaction to consumer confidence levels
  • Despite pessimism, ROB1000 executives have not further downgraded their growth forecasts for their own companies
  • Although there is wide agreement on the importance of strategies to access emerging markets, only two in five companies have one.
