"We are pleased to have been chosen again as one of the best employers for new Canadians," said Michael Bach, Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, KPMG. "This recognition is no accident, as we work hard to continually incorporate new programs at KPMG to assist and support new Canadians on our staff, and to encourage those who are potential new hires."
Launched in 2007, the Best Employers for New Canadians competition recognizes the nation's best employers for recent immigrants. Each employer is evaluated on the types of programs they offer new employees who are recent immigrants to Canada, and on the work they've done to reduce employment barriers.
Some recent initiatives at KPMG are as follows:
- - KPMG is working to recruit more new Canadians through a partnership with the Consortium of Agencies Serving Internationally-trained Persons (CASIP), a network of agencies in the Greater Toronto Area that provides employment services to recent immigrants.
- - KPMG supports new Canadians with international accounting or financial services credentials through a partnership with ACCESS Employment's Financial Services Connections program.
- - KPMG enthusiastically supports The Mentoring Partnership, a program of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC), providing more than 100 mentorships to new Canadian job seekers. Upon program completion, nearly half of the program's mentees have found employment in their field of expertise.
- - KPMG is helping to improve immigrant employment opportunities in Western Canada through partnerships with the Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC) and the BC Immigrant Employment Council (BCIEC), with managing partners as board members of each organization.
"We see this as a win-win proposition," said Mario Paron, Chief Human Resources Officer at KPMG. "By striving to be an inclusive employer, we believe it helps attract top quality candidates who also have a greater chance to succeed with us. Recognition such as this confirms that what we are doing makes good business sense."
