KPMG named again as a top employer in the GTA

Fourth time that KPMG has made the list

(Toronto – October 20, 2009) – For the 4th time, KPMG has been recognized as one of the top employers in the greater Toronto area (GTA).

Now entering its 4th year, Greater Toronto’s Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. This special designation recognizes the greater Toronto employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. The official announcement was published in a special editorial supplement of the Toronto Star on October 17, 2009.

In this year’s application, KPMG chose to highlight many of its innovative people programs, as well as its Diversity initiatives and Community Leader strategy. KPMG’s new LEED Gold standard office space at the Bay-Adelaide Centre also helped it score top marks.

“I am very happy to announce that KPMG has been named as one of greater Toronto’s top employers once again this year,” said Beth Wilson, KPMG’s GTA Managing Partner. “This award is a tangible result of our strategy of attracting the very best people, developing them to their full potential, and building a culture that recognizes and rewards hard work and innovation.”

The firm demonstrates its commitment to building lasting relationships with its employees though a competitive total rewards package that includes many leading people programs, including:

  • Parental leave top-up payments and financial support for adoptive parents
  • A phased-in retirement program and parental leave top-up for both parents
  • Three weeks of paid vacation allowance to start
  • Paid time off for volunteer work in local communities.

Employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same eight criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

“We are proud that our efforts have been recognized” said Beth Wilson. “This award is no accident or coincidence, but reflects our company-wide efforts to be a top-rated employer.”
