Now entering its 10th year, Canada's Top 100 Employers is an annual competition to recognize Canada's best places to work. The project aims to identify the companies and organizations that lead their industries in attracting and retaining employees. The Globe and Mail calls the competition "an instant bible for HR professionals and job-seekers."
This year, the editors reviewed more than 75,000 employers across Canada and invited 16,000 of those to apply.
"Once again, our firm is honoured to have a place on this prestigious list," said Mario Paron, KPMG's Chief Human Resources Officer. "We view this award as a result of KPMG's focus on attracting the very best people, developing them to their full potential, and building a culture that creates a connection with our people that lasts a lifetime."
In addition, the firm demonstrates its commitment to building lasting relationships with its employees though a competitive total rewards package that includes many leading people programs, including:
- Parental leave top-up payments and financial support for adoptive parents
- A phased-in retirement program and parental leave top-up for both parents
- Three weeks of paid vacation allowance to start
- Paid time off for volunteer work in local communities.
National winners will be announced in special editorial supplements published by The Globe and Mail and Maclean's Magazine, with detailed Reasons for Selection published on the job search engine Eluta.ca. Each year, an editorial team explains why each of the winning employers was chosen, providing transparency as well as guidance to employers and job-seekers alike.
A blue-ribbon academic Advisory Board oversees the selection criteria for each year's competition. The distinguished panel members, drawn from universities across Canada, have each written or edited a major human resources textbook in Canada.
"Many organizations talk about putting their employees first," said Mario Paron. "But KPMG actually strives to 'walk the talk.' We have created an environment that attracts top talent and encourages people to do their best. This is a win-win situation for all involved."
